The residents said that the soldiers had stolen wares from their shops in a response to a terror attack on friday.

According to the Nation, the residents complained to have been brutally beaten by the soldiers on Friday.

The residents said that nearly ten vehicles filled with armed officers beat them with rungus and injuring a large number.

They said that the bodaboda rider succumbed to the injuries sustained in the incidence.

“After the attack on their vehicle they came to Sheikh Barrow shopping centre and surrounded people before starting beating us. Some managed to run for their lives but unfortunately one was killed while eight others sustained serious injuries,” said a resident.

Lafey OCPD Bosita Omukolongolo however denied the claims, saying that the deceased could have been killed when police exchanged fire with assailants after their (military) convoy was attacked at Fino.

“Our convoy was ambushed and our lead car was hit by a suspected landmine that resulted to the killing of one of our officers then there was fire exchange. We regret that a person might have been killed in the fight,” he said.
