A Tanzanian High Court has blocked a plan by the government to hire 500 doctors from Tanzania to fill up positions in Kenya.
Justice Nelson Abuodha of the Employment and Labor Relations Court has certified as urgent an application filed by doctors preventing the Ministry of Health and County Governors from employing or deploying foreign medical practitioners to the Kenyan public medical hospitals.
The matter will be mentioned on 19th April 2017.
Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Cleopa Mailu has since defended the government’s decision to employ foreign doctors.
According to Mailu, the move will help address the current shortage and improve doctor patient ratio.
