Kenya has expressed its interest in hosting the athletics world championships.
Following Kenya's success in hosting two other athletic championships plans are underway to launch a bid for the IAAF 2023 championship.
Kenyan Sports minister Hassan Wario cited Kenya's ability to successfully conduct this years IAAF Under-18 Championship as a example.
"We have shown that we are capable to host smaller events, and it has now reached a time when we should host big competitions," said Wario as reported by DNA India.
"Kenya became the first African nation to win the world championship in Beijing in 2015, it is only fitting that we should be the first country to bring the championships to Africa," Wario stated.
The sports minister supported Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) president Hamad Kalkaba Malboum plea to grant Africa the chance to host the World Championships by 2025.
According to Malboum, Kenya is among six other countries in Africa that are capable of hosting the event.
"We have a plan to build three big stadiums in Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret and seven additional new ones in other parts of the country," said Wario.
