Kenya has once again been given the rights to host this year’s Senior Challenge Cup, a month after hosting and winning the tournament.
The Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) ‘rewareded’ the country, after a good tourney.
Finalists in last month’s tournament Zanzibar were in the running for the same rights, but Kenya won the rights for a second year running.
The federation’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said the country did well with organizing, and looks forward to another good tournament.
Last year’s tournament was a success on several fronts. It offered Uganda and Rwanda a platform to prepare for the (Africa Nations Championship) Chan games and I am certain they will, alongside Sudan, adequately represent the region in Morocco,” Musonye said.
Some of the counties vying to host the tournament include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Machakos, and Narok.
The last tournament was held in Machakos and Kakamega with the final staged in Machakos.
Burundi’s will host the Under-17 Challenge Cup in April.
Kenya won last month’s tournament by beating Zanzibar on post-match penalties in the final, after a pulsating 2-2 draw in normal and extra time.
