Every year, secondary students from various counties of Kenya sit for the national examination, KCSE
They wait a while and before they know it, the results are out. This is sometimes a good thing for people, especially those who’ve passed and a bad thing for those who did not do so well, or fail if you would prefer to call it that.
The amusing thing is that when the results are announced, thousands end up getting amazing grades like As and this leads to high chances of students to get admitted into universities. However, after many of these A students join university and they finally graduate, they just do not know how to handle stuff outside the learning facilities. They are literally stuck!
A while back, getting an A was very difficult for students but now it is kind of a walk in the park as people take education very seriously. So even when they perform that well, it does not become breaking news! Some would say that nowadays, exams are easier than those were set in the past. But is that really true?
Back to the matter at hand now. Many students pass their national examinations, get into university, graduate and get into the real world where they do not know how to go about anything. The question that is now asked is whether schools teach these students are taught how to apply whatever they were taught into the world as a way to survive.
It really becomes a challenge for most people because the schools seem to teach them that being spoon fed is the right way to go about issues making it hard for them to think on their own.
The truth is students are only taught how to perform well in schools but not how to succeed in the outside world and if this continues, we will not be able to have leaders of tomorrow as the leaders of today always emphasise.
