South Africa sales to Kenya grew by 11 billion shillings overtaking the United States of America.

The country regarded as Africa's most industrialised economy exported goods worth Sh42.7 billion in an eight-month period, signalling a 34% growth.

This puts S.A at number six in terms of the volume of trade between Kenya and other countries.

Imports from the U.S jumped to Sh.40.2 billion from Sh.34.2 billion moving one position below South Africa on Kenya's import table.

Unfortunately, Kenya's exports to South Africa remains depressingly very low, at less than 5 billion shillings, data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reveal.

Ironically, the two countries are expected to operate on the principle of reciprocity, meaning that Kenya and South Africa should benefit equally from their trade relations.
