Kenya will send both the boys and girls' teams to the competition with a qualification for the Youth Olympics at stake.

Kenya Hockey Union Secretary-General Wycliff Ongori is optimistic that the two will reach at least the final and take home a medal.

“We are still preparing the teams and soon they will be ready for the task. We will enter the boys’ and girls’ teams hoping they will fight for the podium finish,” he said.

The players that are majorly continuing high school students have been entrusted with the task of bringing home the trophy from Algiers.

The high school teams have dominated the regional games for a long time now with St Anthony’s boys of Kitale and Kamusinga high making at least the quarters of the East and Central Africa High School Games since 2005.

The country has a wide talent select in the discipline and has all it needs to progress and bring home the highest accolade from the games.

The teams are aiming for at least a final appearance as that will be enough to get them to the Youth Olympics to be staged in Argentina in October.
