The Governments of Kenya and India have agreed to boost tourism between the two countries, Tourism Principal Secretary Fatuma Hirsi has said.

The PS said the two nations will exchange expertise in tourism and wildlife management in an arrangement meant to help boost tourist numbers in both countries.

Speaking during the celebration of India's 70 years of independence at the Visa Oshwal Auditorium, Nairobi, Hirsi said the two countries share a rich cultural heritage and diversity and there are rich areas of mutual cooperation.

"The enduring friendship between Kenya and India is linked to festival of dance, music, drama and food," she said.

Speaking at the same event, Indian High Commissioner Suchitra Durai lauded the partnership saying the two nations have a lot to share.

"India accounts for a sizeable and growing source for inbound tourists to Kenya with around 65,000 Indian tourists visiting Kenya every year," said Durai.

Hirsi said the tourism sector appreciates and celebrates the Kenyan-Indian community culture and heritage as a great addition to the Kenya rich cultural heritage.

The partnership is part of a marketing campaign spearheaded by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) dubbed 'Chalo Kenya'.
