On Friday, Kenya joined the rest of the world in celebration of the World Rhino Day which takes place September 22 every year.
During the annual event the world celebrates the five remaining species of rhinos including white, black, Sumatran, greater one horned, and Javan rhinos.
'Extinction is forever; time to act is now', is this year’s theme.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) acting director general Julius Kimani has urged Kenyans to come together and join in the celebration.
He added that the fiesta will help eliminate the myths surrounding the rhinoceros.
World Wide Fund for Nature CEO Mohamed Awer assured KWS that they will continue to help them combat poaching and increase the rhino population.
"We have invested in the use of technology in two rhino conservation areas to boost security levels as well as established a sanctuary in Tsavo East," he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The event will take place in Nanyuki town, Laikipia county despite concerns that the rhinoceros is still not safe from the threat of extinction.
