According to the event coordinator Evans Makori the current political uncertainty hanging over Kenya was has been dragging the economy behind and there was need for both political sides to find and amicable solution to the stale mate.
According to Makori the conference is an event held after every two years to showcase to the world the top gemstones and other precious stones, from over 50 countries across the globe known for gemstone production.
It is always organised by member countries of International Color Gemstone Association.
The coordinator termed the suspension of next years’ conference as a big blow to the economy and mining sector in Kenya and Africa.
He blamed the outcome on the violent demonstrations and incessant demands by opposition leaders whom he said had placed the economy in jeopardy.
“We have lost an opportunity to showcase to the world the unique gemstones we produce as a country because the political uncertainty in this country,” said Makori.
Speaking at Nyaturago playground during the launch of Kazi kwa vijana initiative on Monday the coordinator called upon the youths to stop being used by politicians for personal gains.
This comes barely two week after Kenya also lost the rights of hosting Africa cup of Nations under unclear circumstances.
