Mibey said on Monday that Kenya loses over Sh7 billion annually through logging of trees by people who don't seek permission from relevant authorities.

"Despite us planting trees and trying to make Uasin Gishu County achieve 10 per cent forest cover, there are some individuals derailing our efforts by cutting trees in our forests. I am giving a stern warning to such individuals that they will be arrested and charged," he said.

"We have started a programme of creating 10 per cent forest cover in Uasin Gishu County, and we are poised to plant 500,000 trees in Kaptagat Forest at the onset of long rains come April," he added.

He urged farmers to use at least 10 per cent of their farms to plant trees, since trees control soil erosion and strong winds that can be destructive.
