The Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) has signed a partnership deal with eight ASAL counties in an initiative targeted at realising maximum trading opportunities for pastoralists.
Pastoralists from Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Isiolo, Marsabit, Laikipia and Samburu will now benefit from value addition as well as supportive structures to help them realize better returns.
The deal will feature new marketing strategies by the Kenya Markets trust affected in devolved units.
The new developments emerged after the KMT officials together with county executives in charge of livestock from the eight counties, county livestock production directors, county chief officers and national government representatives convened a two-day meeting in Isiolo town.
The national government was, however, urged to closely work with the counties in conducting a conducting regular livestock census using the satellite imaging technology so as to come up with more reliable figures hence better planning.
