Kenya is mourning veteran sixties benga maestro Gabriel Omollo.

 The 79-year-old reportedly passed away on Wednesday, January 3.

The composer, singer, and guitarist will be remembered for his hit song Lunch Time that has survived the tides of time to the current generation.

Omollo was born in 1939.

He was born and bred in the railway quarters of Muthurwa from where he attended St Peter Claver Primary School.

His music career began to shine in the sixties when he joined Equator Sound Band together with other legendary icons in Daudi Kabaka and Fadhili Williams.

In 1974, Omollo became the first Kenyan musician to ever be awarded an International Golden Disc following the sales of his hit single, Lunchtime.

He was to again be 

awarded a Golden Disk Award in 1976 after he sold over 250,000 records.
