A passenger bus overturned in Juja on Wednesday injuring at least 16 people after the driver lost its control.

The accident occurred few meters past Juja Town on Thika Road.

The Kenya Mpya bus was travelling from Thika to Nairobi.

"We could not tell if the bus had picked its passengers at Thika or Juja. We just saw it overturn as it entered the highway," said George Nyaga, a director of a road safety volunteers’ organisation.

The injured passengers were rushed to Kalimoni Hospital in Juja where they were treated and discharged.

"I suffered a minor injury on my left hand and some well-wishers took us to the hospital for treatment," said Eliud Kamau, one of the passengers.

The accident caused a 30-minute traffic jam along the busy highway.
