[Photo|Kiraitu Murungi]Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has reiterated his desire to see a water sufficient nation.He pledged to use his position as the Council of Governors' (CoG) chairman of the Water, Forestry and Mining Committee to vigorously lobby for funds to provide Kenyans with the vital commodity. "For Kenya to be food secure, the country needs to invest massively in water, particularly for irrigation, owing to the erratic rain patterns that have resulted in crop failure in most parts of the country," he said.Kiraitu indicated he would be reaching out to local and international donors to assist in provision of sufficient water through sinking of boreholes and construction of mega dams as well as protection and conservation of water catchments, forests and rivers. He was speaking at his CoG Delta House Office when he met a group of Water CeCs drawn from several of the 47 counties in the country, on Tuesday."Meru County has allocated Ksh700 million to the Department of Water this Financial Year."
