Kenya Power cracked the whip on estates in Nairobi over illegal connections within the Southlands region.
Kenya Power launched the crackdown in Tasia and Embakassi estates.
In a statement Kenya Power confirmed that morethan 20 flats in Nairobi's Tassia Estate had been disconnected.
The move was prompted by increased cases of vandalism and illegal connections.
Some parts of Enterprise Road also got disconnected.
"In collaboration withthe police, the company is carrying out operations to ensure that we eliminate illegalconnections, by-passing of meters and theft of our equipment," said regional Regional manager of the Nairobi South area Aggrey Machasio.
Machasio noted during the Tassia crackdown that illegal power connections posed dangernot only to the culprits but also to beneficiaries.
According to the power distributor, illegal connections are costing the country millions of shillings every year.
