An employee from Kenya Power company was on Friday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of receiving a bribe in order to re-connect electricity to a resident in Mombasa County.
Maina Matheka Mbatha was being accused of allegedly receiving Sh3,000 as bribe from Abdulrahman Maro before he reconnected electricity to his metre box.
The court heard from the prosecution that the accused person committed the offence on September 20 at Mishomoroni area in Kisauni Sub County, Mombasa.
The prosecution told the court that on the material date, the accused being an agent of Kenya power as meter reader requested a financial advantage of Sh3,000 from Maro so as to reconnect electricity in his meter box.
The accused, however, denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.
Mombasa principle magistrate Henry Nyakweba ordered for the accused to be released on a surety bond of Sh200,000.
The case is set for hearing on February 1, 2018.
