Kisumu residents and businessmen have petitioned Kenya Power to address frequent power blackouts in the town which has caused them great loses.
Juakali Artisans Associations Secretary Joshua Oduor says they had recorded losses in their businesses owing to the frequent power blackouts.
“We always have power blackouts especially from Fridays to Mondays. This is really costing us a lot. We are incurring losses and we are asking Kenya Power to address this issue before it gets out of hand,” said Oduor.
The Juakali Artisans representative informed the press that they had already filed a complaint against the Power Company about the issue, but no action had been taken yet by the power supply company.
Oduor said that they were arranging for a meeting with the Kenya Power Boss to find a permanent solution to the problem.
Kisumu City Residents Voice Association Chairman Audi Ogada, who was also present at the press briefing, said that the frequent power blackouts had played a major role in the town’s rising insecurity adding that thugs take advantage of the darkness to harass the residents.
“I urged Kenya Power to address the power blackouts to end the business loses among the residents,” said Ogada.
