Kenya Power is finally fixing equipment to curb frequent power outages in Nyamathumbi and Gachii regions.
The Company has deployed technical staff and equipment to the area to carry out a major overhaul of the power supply system amid complaints from consumers that they had been adversely affected.
Business operations director in Gatundu North Martin Miano has in the past voiced concerns over the business community being hard hit by the constant power interruptions.
Speaking from the area after a meeting with the Kenya Power area departmental leaders on Wednesday, the businessman noted that more that 50,000 million had been lost for a period of two weeks when there was a surge in outages.
Miano had petitioned the electricity service provider, to move with speed and intervene, saying the town’s status as a 24 hour economic hub stood to suffer.
He had been prompted to initiate a solar energy for street lighting project under Public Private Partnership, saying improvement of Kenya Power’s electricity service delivery will highly complement it.
According to Kenya Power area service operations manager Beatrice Mwangi, the boosting of the electricity supply in the area is estimated to cost millions which is further expected to stimulate economic growth owing to an influx of investors in the area.
“We have been engaged by the business people here after complaints about outages that often happen when businesses are busy. We forwarded the complaints to our seniors and a process of fixing better equipment’s to outdo the outages commenced on Saturday last week,” she assured business person.
