Kenya Power in Nyanza region loses Sh2.5 million annually due to illegal connection of power, a senior company manager said.
Addressing Journalist on Tuesday at the company’s Kisii headquarters, Regional Manager Mr David Mugambi said that they discovered that there are illegal connections which need immediate address.
“Today we are launching an operation to disconnect all illegal connections which have been done by some contractors without our authority,” said Mugambi.
In addition he said that these fake contractors have been misleading residents by taking their money without following the right procedure.
He advised all residents to make sure they follow the right procedure while applying for electricity connection.
“I appeal to residents to make sure that they follow the right procedure of applying to protect themselves from disconnection after paying to unauthorised people,” added Mugambi.
The operation kicked off at Bonchura village in Kitutu Chache constituency as they proceeded to Ogembo .
According to Mugambi the most affected counties are Kisii, Migori, Homabay and Nyamira. He said they are going to ensure that they visit all counties to disconnect all illegal connections.
He also warned residents to avoid illegal cabling and connection since it endangers lives.
