Members of parliament from the energy committee on Wednesday announced that they will be summoning Kenya Power managing director Ken Tarus over increased power bills.
The MPs also want Energy Cabinet secretary Charles Keter vetted afresh before assuming office even as they dismissed his recent explanation that the increase in power bills is as a result of a system upgrade.
Addressing a news conference, two MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Godfrey Osotsi (nominated) said that they want Tarus to explain why Kenyans have over the last six months received huge power bills yet consumption is still the same.
The MPs regretted that Kenya power wants to benefit from low-income earners especially after they connected Kenyans to power for free under the last mile project.
Meanwhile, Keter and Tarus welcomed National Assembly Committee on Energy summons to explain but refuted claims that Kenyans will be forced to pay more than Sh81 billion in backdated bills.
