Kenya power has opened a customer care hotline for customers with disputed bills to query and have them resolved. This has come a week after customers received highly inflated power bills dating back to October raising eye brows that the utility supplier had been backdating bills. The hotline is to enable the customers query their bills and get assistance in understanding their monthly billing.Chief executive officer at Kenya Power, Ken Tarus said the company was working to resolve the irregularities in the billing system.“We are requesting them to come onboard so that we carry out a correction exercise on their bills. For those who we have overestimated we will provide credit and for those underestimated we will them allow them some period to pay for the bills that will be outstanding,” Mr Tarus said.Customers are to dial 95551 for the contact center hotline with bill queries. On Thursday City Lawyer Apollo Mboya filed a suit in court seeking to have the court direct Kenya Power and Energy and Regulatory Commission (ERC) stop billing electricity consumers with estimated electricity bills. He is also seeking the court to break the virtual monopoly enjoyed by Kenya Power.
