Kenya power official John Guda said by June this year about 85, 000 homes will be connected with electricity.

“We have good plans to connect electricity to several homes by the end of the year. With electricity, we will have an improved economy,” he said.

He said at the moment 42 per cent of homes have electricity and by June the percentage will rise to 50.

Guda said some families were not connected to electricity due to poverty but with time connection will be made cheaper.

The official called on local chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials to arrest anyone vandalizing transformers and those stealing wires and poles.

“Local chiefs with the help of Nyumba Kumi officials should improve surveillance to reduce theft,” he added.
