Residents of Homa Bay County have been warned against using unqualified technicians to connect power illegally to their homes and business premises.
Kenya Power manager in Homa Bay County Alex Amboko has raised concerns over the huge losses by the company in the region due to illegal connections that are done by brokers in the region.
Amboko said on Thursday that they have used a lot of money in the repair of the company’s equipment damaged by such technicians saying the cost of replacing a new transformer is over Sh1.2 million urging the residents to shun using illegal means for power connection.
The Kenya Power official said the company has been overspending in maintaining their equipment than installing power to new customers.
Kojwach ward MCA Joan Ogada who is also the chair of Energy in the county assembly of Homa Bay urged the residents to corporate with the power distributor so that they get good service from the company, she revealed that she will table a motion in the assembly aiming to curb the frequent blackout in the county.
