The taxpayer will cough a whopping Sh6.9 billion to facilitate Kenya buy properties for diplomats and embassies in world capitals.

Sh2 billion will be spent on office space in New York.

The country will spread the Sh6.9 billion across the next three years.

Through documents presented in Parliament last week, the Foreign Affairs ministry revealed the purchase public and Kenya’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations will immediately assume ownership of the space it had used for many years under lease.

“In the world of mid-market New York City investment sales last week (January), Kenya’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations paid $18.3 million for a commercial condominium unit at 866 United Nations Plaza,” said a magazine, adding that the “mission currently leases their offices in the same building, and this is their first real estate acquisition.”

However, Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohamed did not respond to questions over the transaction.
