Kenya has been ranked position 145 globally after Gambia and Cameroon, dropping six positions, in a new 2016 Corruption Perception Index released by the Transparency International (TI).

East African Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa performed poorly, with Somalia being ranked last, at position 176 after South Sudan which has been ranked at position 175, with Sudan coming position 170 and Uganda at 151.

Denmark, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Singapore, Netherlands, Canada, and Luxembourg came top ten respectively, as Countries that are committed to thwart corruption in all sectors.

According to the TI's report dated January 25, 2017, the lower-ranked countries are plagued by untrustworthy and badly functioning public institutions such as the police and judiciary.

The agency said people in such Countries: "Frequently face situations of bribery and extortion, rely on basic services that have been undermined by the misappropriation of funds, and confront official indifference when seeking redress from authorities that are on the take.''
