Kenya has been ranked as the second biggest market for the Uber community in Africa. According to the latest statistics by the San Francisco based tech firm, there are 363,000 active users of user services in Kenya.
The data was released on Thursday while Uber was marking its Fourth year since its entry into the African market.
South Africa led with the number of Active users at 969,000.It also had a higher number of signed uber drivers 12,000 with Kenya trailing behind at 5,000.
Other countries ranked included Nigeria at 267,000 active riders and about 7,000 registered drivers.
In East Africa, Kenya still remains the vibrant market for uber as Tanzania and Uganda recorded 48,000 and 53,000 active users respectively. Africa has positively received uber with the uber app attracting 1.8 million users.
“Currently we have more than 29,000 driver-partners taking advantage of Uber’s earning opportunities. Drivers love being as flexible as they like; earning what they want, when they want to supplement their income,” said, Alon Lits, Uber General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.
This comes days after uber partnered with Stanbic bank to provide loans to uber drivers in Kenya.
