The session will bring together Heads of States, ministers and other prominent players from the business world, civil society and academia.

The conference will aim at tackling global trade and economic development issues.

The week-long conference will feature ministerial debates, high-level round tables, thematic events, a World Investment Forum and a Civil Society Forum, among other events.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala showcased the country’s tourism on Tuesday during the first briefing session in Geneva, ahead of the July conference.

Balala joined Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed who led the Kenyan delegation.

Speaking to delegates representing the 194 UNCTAD member states, Balala noted that the conference would take place just at the beginning of the Wildebeest migration in Maasai Mara.

“Kenya is prepared to host this conference. I propose taking time either before or after the conference to sample what the country has to offer including the Maasai Mara migration which starts around the same time as the conference,” he said.

Kenya last hosted UNCTAD in 1976, and will be the first country to host the meeting twice.

UNCTAD conferences take place every four years.
