The American government on Thursday donated a Sh700 million grant to Kenya in efforts to boost the energy sector.

The signing  on the deal was signed between the Kenya Electricity Generating Company and United States Trade and Development Agency in New York during the US/Africa business forum.

The signing was witnessed by Deputy President William Ruto  and US President Barrack Obama.

Ruto said that the money will go a long way in helping the government increase power generation in the country.

He further stated that the aim of the government was to supply citizens with clean renewable energy.

"Over 40 new substations have also been commissioned since our government came to office in 2013, raising power generation by close to 1,000 MW," said Ruto.

The money will be channeled through the Kenya Electricity Generating Company [KenGen]
