The funding is aimed at boosting the fight against HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which are said to be the leading causes of death in the country.

The funding will be absorbed into the 2016/2017 financial year.

Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday during a briefing for all county health executives on the disbursement of the funds to the devolved units, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health Nicholas Muraguri, announced that Kenya had secured the funding from Switzerland after a competitive bidding process.

"Kenya managed to apply for support in funding from the Geneva based Trust to support our fight against Tuberculosis, HIV/Aids, and Malaria,” said Muraguri.

“Large chunks of the money will be channeled to community based prevention and treatment programmes,” he added.

The principal secretary said that the new funding would see more than 600,000 youth affected by HIV enrolled on antiretroviral therapy.
