Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has given the Kenyan government Sh50 million to help in the fight against fall armyworms.
The money will be used in purchasing of traps to destroy breeding grounds of the insects that have caused havoc in western Kenya.
According to FAO, this is part of the effort to ensure the menace is controlled and save farmers from further losses.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Better says the government will put in place a Sh2.3 billion strategy next year to fight the worms
"It is estimated that about six to million bags of maize have been lost in the ongoing harvest as a result of the worm attacks and these funds will go a long way in taming the threat in future," said Mr Bett.
