The Kenya Red Cross Mombasa Branch has set up safety booths in Both Jomo Kenyatta in Bamburi and at the Shelly beach in Likoni to manage disaster as the public beaches experience huge numbers of holidaymakers during this festive season.

The booths are managed by the Red Cross Mombasa branch disaster management officers.

According to the Mombasa Red Cross branch Coordinator Rajab Mohammed Said, said the measures were taken to enable the organisation to tame any disaster during this festive season where the beaches are flooded by both domestic and foreign tourist 24 hours since Christmas Eve.

He said that the disaster management officers led by Abdallah Athman are manning the beaches 24 hours together with security agents so as to ensure the holiday seasons run smoothly into the New Year.

Rajab said that the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa Branch has been conducting the same exercise together with other security agents during the holiday season to avert disaster, especially at the beaches.

“At the same time, our officers are offering help services to parents who may have lost their children among the crowd so we take the children to our safety booths and announce to the parents so that they can reunite with their children” he added.

He said Jomo Kenyatta public beach famously know as pirates and the Shelly beach at Likoni were flooded during this festive season and the disaster management team would take no chance but provide maximum services to all the holidaymakers.

Rajab however, appealed to parents to ensure that they accompany their children while visiting the public beaches so that their children remain safe.

He said that some parents would not care where their children are whether during the day or at night and that poses a great danger to the lives of the young ones.

“As parents, you must be responsible, guide your children, accompany them to the beach especially the underage since you do not know what’s in the mind of the holidaymakers,” he added.

However, the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa Branch Coordinator said that so far no any serious incident has been reported as the festive season goes on a situation he attributed to cooperation between the humanitarian organization and the security agents manning the public beaches in Mombasa.
