There was a cholera scare on wednesday at Naivasha Referral Hospital after the Kenya Red Cross in conjunction with Nakuru County Public Health Department carried out a drill to test the hospital's preparedness on the disease.
A Kenya Red Cross ambulance entered the hospital with a 'cholera patient' which attracted the attention of many curious on-lookers who thought there was an outbreak of the deadly disease.
Nakuru County Public Health Officer Caroline Vata however said that it was one of the ways of examining the hospital's ability to handle such emergencies.
She added that they have also put other measures in place that include banning the sale of food on roadsides and those caught doing so will be prosecuted.
"We want to ensure that the safety standards in terms of personal hygiene and sanitation are adhered to,” said Vata.
"Within this month alone we have done ten arrests of the same and cases of uninspected meat,” she added.
Vata advised the residents to keep the environment clean as well as observe their personal hygiene to stay free from cholera.
