[Photo|KRCS]The Kenya Red Cross Society Kisumu team was forced to intervene and assist in ferrying 39 students who were stranded in Kisumu.The students were stranded at the Kisumu Bus park on Wednesday evening after failing to catch passenger busses to their destinations due to shortage of transport buses and increased bus fares.The shortage is being witnessed after government banned night travel for long distance passenger vehicles.

Through the NTSA and Traffic Department, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure banned ferrying of passengers during the night following a fatal road accident at Migaa area, Nakuru county.The December 31, 3 am accident involving a Nairobi Bus PSV and a trailer left at least 36 people dead and several others seriously injured.The Kenya Red Cross Society provided own vehicles that took the students safely to schools in Siaya and Busia counties from Kisumu.Some arrived on Thursday morning as the transportation was done over the night.
