Kenya Red Cross Society has issued donations of household items to more than 125 families whose houses' roofs were blown off by wind in Mwala, Machakos County on Saturday.

The organization's Machakos branch manager Gideon Mutua said they in collaboration with the area MCA Thomas Mutinda supplied the victims with personal effects, blankets, mosquito nets and tents.

He addressed the press in Mwala during the donations' issuance on Tuesday.

“Help delayed is help denied, we were notified of conditions of the 125 families who were languishing in cold and decided to extend a helping hand," Mutua said.

Mary Mutua, a beneficiary said she was forced to seek refuge in her neighbors' homes together with her entire family after they were affected by the tragedy.

She thanked the Kenya Red Cross and MCA for their support.

Mary appealed for food donations support from well wishers to help sustain the affected families.

Mwala MP Vincent Musau promised to provide roofing materials to three of the class rooms in Mwaasua Primary School which were left roofless following the same Saturday night's incident.

Wamunyu MCA Thomas Mutinda appealed to well wishers to help roof the remaining three classrooms so that studies can resume immediately.
