[Photo|Kiraitu Murungi]Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi hosted a delegation from the Kenya Red Cross Society led by Secretary General Abbas Gullet on Thursday.The meeting saw the parties sign a MoU between the Kenya Red Cross and the County Government of Meru, that will see Kenya Red Cross Society handle all cases related to emergency and disasters in the county.Through this auspicious partnership, Kiraitu said the Kenya Red Cross Society will also aid the county government towards achieving food security, with drier parts of Meru County (especially those bordering Isiolo County) earmarked for a "green-gram revolution", with farmers expected to receive free seeds before the start of the next rainy season."Once harvested, the county government will provide a ready and competitive market for the green grams, in a bid to empower our farmers economically," he affirmed.Kiraitu was later installed as the patron for Kenya Red Cross in Meru during the same function.
