In a bid to sustain and broaden its humanitarian reach within Mombasa and its environs, the Kenya Red Cross Society Mombasa branch has embarked on collecting donations from well wishers and other donors.
The Humanitarian organization projects a 15 million shillings collection by the end of April so that it carries on with providing basic emergency aid and disaster management and preparedness assistance and awareness whenever they arise.
Speaking during the launch of a media campaign aimed at appealing for donations on Tuesday, the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa Branch Coordinator Rajab Mohammed said that the organizations need more funds.
“We want to initiate various income generation projects so that the funds collected from the projects and directed to providing basic and urgent need to the public,”He said.
He said that the dependency of international donor at times poses a challenged especially when the timelines for the funded projects are over and donors pull out.
“We want to sustain our humanitarian aid throughout without highly depending on donor fund that is why we are conducting this Galla diner so as to collect funds and ensure the humanitarian aid we are proving is continuous,” added Mr. Rajab.
He appealed to the media to help the organization stabilize its initiatives so that it can reach many locals whenever in need.
