The National U23 football team, the Emerging Stars beat hosts Uzbekistan U23 in an international friendly match, winning 2-1.

The match was played at the Soglom Avlod stadium in Uzbekistan on Friday March 23, 2018. 

Wazito FC forward Piston Mutamba was the star of the show for the Francis Kimanzi led side, hitting a goal and an assist.

Mutamba set up KCB forward Chris Onyango for the opener, before scoring the second goal 10 minutes to half time.

The hosts came back stronger in the second half, changing their tact with a more attack minded play.

They won a penalty in the 72nd minute taken by Zabihillo Urinboev but goal keeper Timothy Odhiambo saved the spot kick. A few minutes later, Andrey Sidorov pulled one back for the hosts.

The two teams will face each other in return tie next Tuesday still in Uzbekistan.

The Kenyan team is using the matches as preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifications.
