She has replaced Benson Abwao who has been organizing and coordinating the festivals in the whole country.

Last year, Benson Abwao, while speaking in Kisumu where the national music competitions were held, announced that the 2016 Kenya schools music festivals will be held in Nairobi, Kasarani stadium.

Immediately after assuming office as the new executive secretary, Ms Ruth Agesa made changes to the 2016 music festival calender.

This is because of the radical changes that education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i had made concerning term dates and activities.

Matiang'i extended the second term and shortened third term.

Kenya schools music festivals are usually held in second term.

Ms Agesa changed the dates of the festivals from June to July.

Group I regional festivals will now be held from July 3 to July 10.

Group 2 regionals competitions will now be held from July 10 to July 16.

Nationals will be held from 8-12 August.
