Kenya’s hopes of lifting the main cup in the final of the World Rugby Sevens Series in Vancouver, Canada were cut short after Fiji scored 19 unanswered tries to win 31-12.

In so doing, Fiji became the first team to notch two tournament titles this season, moving from third to second in the series standings behind South Africa.

Kenya stunned USA 24-19 in the semifinals, and storm into the finals in spectacular fashion. Prior to their semifinal match, Shujaa had seen off England in the quarterfinals to book a date with the US.

South Africa, who beat the United States 29-7 in the third place playoff lead the standings on 109 points, with Fiji on second with 101 points while New Zealand is on 92 points. 

In the final, the homeboys put up a good fight, forcing Fiji to a 12-12 tie on halftime. However, Fiji came back stronger to score 19 unanswered points in the second period, to the disappointment of many Kenyans.
