Kenya will bid to host the Miss World beauty pageant in 2019, Sports, Culture and Arts Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario has said.The CS said an inter-ministerial committee would be formed to work with the Miss World Kenya to help in lobbying for the 67-year-old pageant."The government has made its commitment to work with the Miss World Kenya franchise holder Madame Terry Mungai. We are writing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and the Miss World Kenya team through the relevant nations to make this bid a success," Wario said on Friday night.He spoke at a ceremony to welcome the reigning Miss World Africa Magline Jeruto in Nairobi.Jeruto emerged the top five overall during the Miss World beauty pageant held in November in Sanya City, China.Kenya has produced Miss World Africa title winners in a row, with Jeruto taking the beauty crown from her predecessor Evelyn Njambi.Speaking at the same event, Mungai thanked the government for supporting Miss World Kenya over the past decades."We thank the government for coming through us in an event that has brought glory to our country and that has helped market Kenya," she said."We are glad that the government has taken the initiative to support Miss World Kenya through the relevant ministries," Mungai added.
