UNESCO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, is organizing the National Launch of the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEMR) 2017 on 28 February 2018 at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.

GEMR is prepared annually under the aegis of UNESCO, on the state of Education in the world.The GEM Report 2017/18 traces the evolution of the education discourse agenda from Jomtien to Dakar and Incheon, and from the MDGs to the SDGs highlighting the extent to which countries should be held to account. 

The Report also identifies the accountability mechanisms needed to monitor the Education 2030 goals for various stakeholders at different levels of governance.

The Report includes a thematic and monitoring section. The thematic section focuses on the rationale, effectiveness, and the intended and unintended consequences of different accountability frameworks, while the monitoring section assesses progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 and its targets.

The 2017/18 Report theme is: Meeting our Commitments Meeting our Commitments Meeting.
