The Kenya Under-20 football team will on February 5 report to camp ahead of the annual Africa Youth Championship (AYC) to be staged at in Niger in 2019.

The junior soccer side has been quiet for some time now following their acrimonious disqualification from Africa Under 20 Cup of Nations qualifiers in April 2016.

However, speaking on Friday, Kenya Premier League Chief Executive Officer Robert Muthomi revealed that the team will play a friendly match against neighbors Tanzania before flying out to Egypt where they are expected to take part in a four-nation tournament as they await the draw for the initial stage of the qualifiers.

"The Kenya U20 side will report to camp on 5th February 2018 to prepare for the African Youth Championship qualifiers. On the cards is a friendly match against Tanzania and a four-nation tournament in Egypt in March," Muthomi said.

He added that they plan to assemble players who have been impressive in the ongoing Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom bonanza, foreign-based players as well as those who are featuring in the Kenya Premier League.

The country had a moment to forget in their last qualification attempts in 2016 after the team was sent packing moments after their one-all draw against Sudan over an age-cheating scandal.
