Kenya and Uganda will join efforts to vaccinate animals as a measure of containing the rampant foot and mouth disease and other infections that prevail in pastoral communities in the two countries.

Principal secretary for livestock Dr. Andrew Tuimur said the government has already set aside shillings 8.5 billion for the project which will run for the next five years and target to vaccinate 3.1 millions animals in both countries.

Speaking in  Kitale in a funtion to launch the project, he said the program supported by the World bank will target areas including West Pokot, Turkana, Karamoja in Uganda and the other border regions.

His  Uganda counterpart  Dr. Noelina Nantima said the program will help improve livestock resilience alongside improving productivity.she cautioned people against consuming meat of ill or dead animals during this festive period.
