As preparations to commence repatriation process heighten, the government has stated that it will continue monitoring the peace situation and other developments in Somalia as a good neighbour.

According to Mwenda Njoka, the spokesman at the Interior Ministry, Kenya will not close its borders to the Somalia citizens if it happens that war erupts again in future.

‘'Should war ever break out again in Somalia necessitating asylum for its people, Kenya as a country will never close its borders. We are good neighbours and we will always be ready to help each other in times of need,” said Njoka.

Regarding the notion of generalising the refugees as being behind the rising insecurity in Kenya, the spokesperson noted the whole issue lied with the registered refugees who host and hide the unregistered Somalia refugees who pose security threats to the nation.

‘'You know people have been asking us why we are determined to send back all the Somalia refugees instead of just eradicating out the troublesome individuals. The issue is that registered refugees hide their undocumented colleagues and these are the ones who cause us security problems,” noted Njoka.
