An Al Shabaab commander and mastermind of the Garissa University attack Mohammed Kuno has been killed.
Reports by local media say Jubaland Security minister Abdirashid Janan established that the body found after a targeted air strike by US drones in Jubaland is that of Kuno.
However, KDF spokesman Colonel David Obonyo on his part said they have not received any reports about the death of the Kenyan who ranked among the most wanted terror suspects.
According to Daily Nation digital news, the government of Jubaland reportedly said that Mr Kuno was among those killed in Bulagaduud, about 30 kilometres from Kismayu in the overnight raid.
Sources linked to Commander of the Jubaland forces Gen Aadan Koojar revealed that Mr Kuno (alias Gamadhere) was killed together with his three bodyguards.
Mr Kuno is a former teacher in Garissa and had been named as mastermind in last year’s Garissa college attack that claimed 148 lives.
A Sh20 million bounty had been placed by the Kenyan government on his head.
