The clergy in Kenya has weighed in on the call by the head of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, to amend the Lord's Prayer.
This call has been fueled by the Pope's belief that a line in the prayer was wrongly translated.
Pope Francis wants the line ''lead us not into temptation'' amended because it creates the impression that God induces temptation.
''It is not God who tempts us into sin but the enemy of human nature. But tradition and familiarity are also important factors in weighing up any decision to modify a translation.'' he contended.
The chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Philip Anyolo to the Daily Nation that he has not yet received any official communication on the matter from the Vatican.
Anyolo argues that the Lord's Prayer cannot be changed because it is contained in scripture but can only be adapted to fit different situations.
The secretary-general of the National Council of Churches of Kenya, Canon Peter Karanja, was coy on whether the call was wrong saying, ''The decision might be good or bad depending on whether the changes would deviate from the original text.''
Jesus Christ introduced the Lord's Prayer and asked Christians to recite it.
