Kenyan security troops on Wednesday repulsed suspected Al-Shabaab militants who had planned to stage a surprise raid on an administration police (AP) in Lafey area along the Somalia border.
Deputy County Commissioner Oronyi Eric said the armed men had targeted the camp in Lafey countituency but local police moved in swiftly and repulsed them.
“Our police officers shot at the suspected assailants and managed to drive them back to Somalia,” Oronyi said.
Oronyo said the suspected Al-Shabaab fighters were possibly working in cahoots with the locals in gauging security alertness of the country's security agents.
“We have discovered that Al-Shabaabs are working with a few locals in gauging our security preparedness in a bid to stage future attacks.
The police chief said the raiders had surrounded the AP police camp after which the security officers engaged them with a fierce gun battle.
The Al-Shabaab terrorists have in the past five months attacked local communication masts with the aim of blocking police officers from immediately responding to their attacks.
