A Kenyan US-based scholar has made history as the first Kenyan and one of the first in the world, to graduate with a Master's Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

John Gitau Wairimu graduated alongside 3 other US nationals from the University of Alabama, an unprecedented achievement, making the 4 a rare lot.

According to the 34 year-old, who also holds a Bachelor's Degree in public health, he is now ready to put his acquired skills and knowledge into use.

''I have rubbed shoulders with some of the greatest scientists and physicians in the world at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and having learnt from them, I feel ready and confident enough to go out in the world and have an impact on someone's life,'' he is quoted by the Standard.

The degree revolves around diagnosing and determining the severity of diseases including cancers and heart problems.

This comes at a time when Kabarak University has joined the league of a few health institutions in Kenya offering nuclear medical services.

The Nakuru-based institution has since unveiled a 500-bed hospital with the latest nuclear medical equipment.
