Former Kenya international midfielder Mc Donald Mariga is the only Kenyan to have made and appearance in the Italian top flight as well as netting a goal.
The towering defensive midfielder played on more than 35 occasions for Serie B side and was an important cog in their set up as they achieved promotion for the 2009/2010 season.However, he would play the entire first half of that campaign without finding the back of the net.In the first of February 2010, the last day of Europe's winter transfer, Internazionale snapped him up from Parma.Despite playing second fiddle at the San Siro club, Mariga would go on to make history after finding the back of the net via a well-placed header.He achieved the feat in Inter's 3-2 win over Genoa.To date, he remains the only Kenyan to have scored a goal in the Italian top flight.Inter Milan's foreign transfer policy prevented them from having him around for the 2011-201 season and had to loan him out to Real Sociedad.He did come back to Inter at the completion of the football season but was immediately loaned out to Parma before the deal was then made permanent.There are rumors that striker Michael Olunga has been contacted by Sampdoria and Atalanta.
